Here's a clip of one of the, or at least what I considered to be, more intense dances.
Overall, it was a great show, and a culturally rich experience, from the dances, to the instrumentals, to the singing. Although I wasn't exactly sure what to expect, I can say that I am definitely not disappointed. I was, however, very surprised by the singing, but in a good way. I definitely did not expect such a loud/powerful voice...
3) Toledo - Da spot was hot... literally... VERY hot...
Despite the heat, I really enjoyed Toledo. I was able to see some of the most impressive architectural works that I've ever, and probably will ever see. Unfortunately, we weren't able to take pictures of many of these sites, but I guess that gives you more reason to visit Spain, yourself!
In the photo above, we were standing outside the cathedral, which has been around for hundreds of years. While it was in pretty good condition, the tour guide admitted to some restoration that was performed on the building. The handcuffs were said to be symbols of those that were liberated from type of persecution (from what I understood).
The ceiling was nice. Apparently, it was inspired by the ceilings of other religious buildings (I believe she said that it originated in the Mosque).
During the rest of our time in Toledo, we visited various historical, religious buildlings (including some antique cathedrals, and a synagogue). While I'm disappointed that I was not able to take pictures of these buildings, I also think that it preserves the significance of these buildlings - the pictures would not do justice to these works!
Overall, the city of Toledo was beautiful, like much of what we have seen so far!
And last, but not least...
4) Mass... in Spain! - My senora invited me to come along to church, with her. Again, I wasn't exactly sure what to expect... especially since the mass would be entirely in Spanish! In the end, though, it wasn't the least bit awkward (which was, admittedly, a fear of mine), and, to my surprise, I understood the majority of the mass (which may be owed to the fact that it was very similar to the mass that I normally attend, in the U.S.)! It was a rewarding feeling!
Also to my surprise, though, was the lack of people in church... especially the lack of youth - I was greatly outnumbered by parents and grandparents! Still, the church was like a work of art, and the mass was comforting... perhaps I'll try a new church, next week!
So... all in all, Spain has been treating me very kindly! I can't believe how quickly time is going by... I feel like there's still so much to do! I hope all is well at home...
Tu hijo,
Maurice
